Following our previous news post In Celebration of Personalised Care week- Monday 23rd-Friday 27th September third and final winner Jackie Innes (Great Bentley Surgery).
Below is Jackie’s Trans Non-Binary Gender Questioning (TNBGQ) case story:
“I have been working on early diagnosis in screening. I particularly worked on the transgender population. Transgender patients can slip through the net, when it comes to screening.
I started to identify transmen who were eligible for cytology screening. We contacted the eligible patient and educated them on the reason why they should be screened. Out of the 20% of eligible patients identified in one practice, we screened 10%. If we can save 1 person life in cervical Cancer, I feel we have achieved something.
From the success of cervical screening, I turned my attention to Trans women identifying eligible patients that require Prostrate and AAA+ screening. Each eligible patient has been contacted, educated and tested, and treated where needed.
I feel this is a huge achievement. As this is an area of patients that are difficult to identify and a very sensitive area to address and hard to reach out to. To date, I fell this has been a huge success for me and our PCN. I would love this to be shared.”.
